Adult Religious Exploration

This Adult Religious Exploration curriculum explores what it means to live a religion that holds together the traditions of justice seeking and freedom of belief, simultaneously. What are our values – what we want the world to look like? How do they compare to the stark reality that each of us perceives in the world as it is – i.e., our beliefs? And what actions should we take to make this world look more like the one we want to live in? Here, we confront difficult questions:

• When I disagree with someone else’s actions, is it because we have different beliefs, or different values?

• How do individuals form their beliefs, and what can cause those beliefs to change?

• How does Unitarian Universalism differ from other religions, which require adherents to subscribe to a particular set of beliefs?

• How can recognizing the difference between beliefs and values make us more open-minded?
