Camp Flame is a summer day camp operated by Harrisonburg Unitarian Universalists. Our mission is to ignite the spirits of our youth through a community of radical inclusion, joyful discovery, and the transformative power of love! At Camp Flame, we don’t just talk about our values—we live them. Our name stands for the “sparks” that guide us:

  • Friendship and Generosity: We practice friendship by sharing our time and kindness.

  • Love at the Center: We create a safe, heart-led space for every camper.

  • Always Growing: We embrace transformation and learning from mistakes.

  • Many Paths: We celebrate the unique stories that make our community brighter.

  • Everything is Connected: We care for the Earth and each other as part of a sacred web.

Campers will enjoy group games, crafts, science experiments, nature exploration, and more! Children and families do not need to have previous experience with Unitarian Universalism to participate, and children from all faith traditions or none are welcome. The last day of camp is a family fun day where parents are invited to stay for activities and enjoy a cookout picnic lunch.

Please reach out to us if you would like more information! We look forward to having an amazing summer!

Heat / Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, including high heat indexes, we will shift to low-energy/indoor activities.

Registration & Enrollment

We welcome campers on a rolling basis. Once a group (Sparks, Embers, or Beacons) reaches its capacity based on our safety ratios, we will open a waitlist.

Tuition & Payments

Two registration tiers are available: Standard ($220) and Sustaining ($295). Sustaining registrations support our growing program and ability to offer future financial assistance to other families. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required to reserve your camper's spot.

The final payment deadline is June 30th.

At this time payments are only accepted by check. We are working on an online option and will share that with parents when it is available.

To make Camp Flame accessible, we offer flexible paths to completing your registration:

  • Payment Plans: During registration, you may choose to pay in a lump sum or select a deferred payment plan.

  • lf paying by installments, you will be able to use the online link anytime until June 30 to make payments. Families who register before online payments are available can defer payment of their deposit until we're able to share the payment link. Thanks for your understanding!

  • Deadline: All tuition must be paid in full no later than 20 days before the start of camp. If the balance is not cleared by this time, the reservation will be canceled to allow a child from the waitlist to attend. Any refundable portion of your prior payments will be returned to you.

  • Camperships: A registration tier is available for families who wish to support future camperships. Since we are a new program, we do not have an established campership fund at this time. If you are interested in donating to our campership fund, please contact our Director, Kim Newton.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

We understand that life happens. Refunds are issued on the following schedule:

  • 60+ Days Prior: Full refund of camp fee (minus the $50 deposit).

  • 19–59 Days Prior: 50% refund of camp fee (minus the $50 deposit).

  • Under 20 Days: No refund can be issued, as funds have already been committed to staff and supplies.

  • The pay-in-full deadline is Tuesday, June 30th.
